Supporting collaboration in medical technologies & pharmaceuticals industries via MedTeCCH

Australia’s reliance on imported medical products was brought into sharp focus during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to prevent supply chain disruptions and future shocks it’s no surprise that strengthening and growing the nation’s manufacturing base is widely supported, as indicated by the Australian government’s Medical Products National Manufacturing Priority Road Map.

With the aim of strengthening the Hunter’s medical technologies and pharmaceuticals industries, MedTeCCH is a new business cluster brought together by the Regional Development Australia (RDA) Hunter and Ai Group in June 2020. By fostering collaboration across the Hunter Central Coast region we’re building awareness of the region’s capabilities in the field to engage like-minded companies with state and federal bodies, and decision-makers.

 

What makes Safearth a good fit for medical product R&D?

Safearth is thrilled to be a part of this innovative network, a first for the medical technologies and pharmaceuticals sphere. We were invited to join MedTeCCH after the success of our ‘Ventasys’ ICU Ventilator project for the NSW Government. Although the medical industry is new to us, our expertise in rapidly creating functional prototypes is an obvious draw when medical product development is often measured in years, not weeks (as was the case with the ventilator). Our business characteristics and transferable skills from developing products for safety-critical systems are a perfect fit for this exciting new venture.

We’ve experienced first-hand how collaboration and a willingness to find solutions to meaningful problems can have potentially life-changing outcomes. Likewise, the RDA’s collaborative spirit will help scale design, production and distribution by leveraging the diverse expertise involved with MedTeCCH.
